ChessPro does pretty much everything you would want from a Chess game, give or take a few minor adjustments. It offers a 2 player hotseat mode where you just pass the iPhone back and forth to each other, as well as offering a player versus CPU mode which I suspect will be the most played option.

In this "First Look" review of version 1.1, I found Chess Pro to be an error free and fun Chess game to play. There are several levels, playing modes and themes to choose from. The developer has been very approachable in e-mails, and I sense he's working hard to keep this program free of the criticisms that have plagued others. I believe the "Hard" level will keep 99 percent of the casual wood pushers continuously challenged, and the price is very modest.

Solid choice for aggressive or experienced chess players who crave a challenge. |
Overall Chess Pro is a very good game, well worth the $3.99 USD price tag. If you want to play without the advanced features (themes, open book, variants and difficulty levels) you can try the Chess Lite version available for $0.99.

Chess Pro is one of the better chess games that is currently out for the iPhone and the iPod Touch. The game has nice graphics, a perfectly-built interface, and easy to use controls. |
99Games have done a great job with adding only the best and most useful features, whilst still keeping the interface clean and intuitive. |

Chess has been and will always be a fun way to exercise your brain, and Chess Pro is a fine portable adaptation. It doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but that doesn’t stop it from being a solid app.
Chess Pro is for players who know what they’re doing and looking for a real challenge.
I’m a fan. I like it a lot and this will continue to be my Chess application of choice.
Over all I found the Game of Kings to be a worthy iPhone adaptation and the new modes do offer some increased incentive to people looking for a good... |
Chess Pro has really impressed me. There is no long waits for the computer to make it’s move, or any loading time. When you tap a button, it is very snappy. |
This game is for anyone interested or previously played chess. While it is recommended for advanced chess players, it has an easy mode for beginners which isn't on the lite version so I would recommend it to anyone. Great game, visually and for its gameplay.

The game engine is great. It’s easy to keep track of movement since the last move made is highlighted, along with legal moves for a selected piece. And just in case you made a dumb move that allowed your opponent to capture your queen, there’s an undo button. If only I could get one of these in real life.
However… if you’re a total chess nerd and have posters of Bobby Fischer on your bedroom wall, Chess Pro is easily worth $3.99! It has all the features you’d expect in a premium app, the chess boards and pieces will win just about any beauty contest, and the Suicide and Loser variants are awesome bonuses for when you get tired of chasing kings. In other words, if you’re going to pay for a chess app you can’t go wrong with this one.
Overall it’s well done and fun to play even for the non chess type people.
Overall Chess Pro is a wise choice for players of any ability looking for a iPhone/iPod Touch chess game. 99Games have done a great job with adding only the best and most useful features, whilst still keeping the interface clean and intuative.

The game loads quickly and even if you are a beginner in Chess you can pick up and play quickly. One of my favorite parts of the game is that when you select a Chess piece it shows you all the legal moves...
So, I ask again, is it worth the money? I’d have to say yes… if you are a chess lover. The app is very well designed with no major flaws I can find.
Chess Pro is even more feature packed with three different boards and three difficulty levels. The AI (artificial intelligence) is very good, truly taking iPhone programming to the next level.
I would highly recommend downloading Chess Pro and Chess Lite - whether you go for the Lite version or Pro is up to you.
It plays well, looks polished, contains variants for those that get bored of standard play and costs less than $5.00. |
The gameplay graphics are impeccable, and the menu is good. The difficulty is perfect, and has the variety needed for a good chess game. |
Chess Pro is a full featured chess game for the iPhone or iPod Touch. The user interface for this game is very smooth and simple to use, even I got it the first time. |
99Games serves up a solid game of Chess on the iPhone with incredibly simple controls and a decent enough number of options and difficulty settings to keep the hardcore coming back for more. |
